I don't drive much these days, preferring to take public transport if traveling locally. I've just got the gov't extortion letter to renew my rego, I have to get an inspection and pay all the fees to allow me to use a car, even with comprehensive insurance they still charge $700? third party insurance. I don't have the letter in front of me so my numbers could be out. Anyway it's expensive to own and drive a car in NSW.

OK, I found the rego letter, $364 gov't fees, and I have to buy a compulsory third party insurance policy. That must be what put the price up to $700.

About the same as over here disley, I'm paying $679 a year for a 6 cylinder plus insurance which is 60 bucks a month then there's RAC in case of breakdown and tyres, fuel and other stuff I can't think of at the moment because it's early and I just got out of bed. Bottom line is it's bloody expensive to own a car let alone drive one, but we have no choice living 30 k's out of town so it's just part of life for us

I keep saying I'll get rid of it, but I don't. I could use taxies and public transport for 99% of my journey's. And have change from what I spend owning a car. I live in the inner west where everything I need is conveniently close.

I've had a car since I was 16 and been driving from exactly 6 weeks after my 17th birthday which was the law in Qld back then. So I hate the thought of not being able to drive myself around let alone not owning a vehicle lol, It is ingrained in my soul now
